How to be super organised at work!
You know that you wouldn’t need to bring all that work home if you were simply more organised at work. Or at least not all of it (I mean, let’s be realistic here). But you also know that’s easier said than done. You barely finish one job before 3 more are plonked on your desk and you have ANOTHER pointless meeting scheduled in an hour. Sigh. So how do you keep on top of it all? Follow our tips on how to be super organised at work!
Preparation, preparation, preparation!
Having a clear set of goals for the following work day really helps to get everything out of your mind and onto paper (or an app if you use one). Try to block out 15mins at the end of each day to plan the following day. Your priorities will become clearer and easier to list your tasks in order of importance. Using an app like Trello allows you to move your tasks into progress columns and keeps everything together.
Block out
Following on from #1, once you have your jobs in order, create a schedule for your day and block out times for bigger tasks. It automatically puts a deadline on each job and stops you from being distracted with other menial tasks. Let other colleagues know when you are “blocked out” so they know not to bother you with surprise meetings or a quick chat.
Do not, I repeat, do not multi-task!
Multi-tasking can make you feel productive, when in all honesty, its doing exactly the opposite. Going from job to job makes overloads our minds and gives us brain fog. And that is hardly productive if you can’t focus properly!
Clean your desk!
Making sure your desk and computer are clean is vital to keeping clutter out of your mind and focus on the more important things. Create a filing system that allows you to place your hand (or mouse) on the file without hesitation, which will save you time on searching aimlessly for vital minutes. And if you don’t need it, trash it!
Mind over matter
Most of the time we feel overwhelmed by our workloads is because we let our tasks rule us, instead of focusing on one thing at a time. It’s a big mind game, but if you learn to accept its simply not possible to do 50 things in one day, you will find you will approach your day a lot differently. Looking at your tasks as a whole rather than broken down will just stress you out and lead to burnout.
Bonus tip!
If you need to get quotes for printing, design and digital collateral, why not go to one place that can do it all? Save yourself the hassle of getting researching multiple businesses, requesting multiple quotes and then having to chase up multiple people! I’m just going to leave this one right… here. (hint hint: created2print. And it rhymes, too!).
If you try these tips, I’m sure you will fell lea overwhelmed. And hey, you might start to sleep better and enjoy the little things in life. It’s worth a try!
